Well, the habs were knocked out of the playoffs by the Philadelphia Flyers last night. The Flyers will face the Chicago Blackhawks for the Stanley Cup starting this Saturday. I for one will be rooting for the habs’ fellow original six NHL team, the Blackhawks. Not only because the Flyers took out my habbies (Damn them for it) but also because Chicago hasn’t won the Stanley Cup since 1961, and they deserve it.
I was pretty depressed for a good few hours after the game last night. But when I went out for a walk today I noticed something great – there were a lot of people walking around with Montreal Canadiens hats and shirts. The habbies have made a lot of new fans this year after doing so well in the playoffs as the underdog team. I think the fan base next year will be greater than it has been for years.
The Montreal Canadiens had a loonie printed last year that circulated around Canada to celebrate their 100 year anniversary. I’ve never got one over the counter, but my friend gave me her habs loonie when she got one, she put it aside immediately when she got it, knowing that I would love to have it. So, now it’s my lucky habs loonie.
I think next year will be big for the habs. But for now, go Blackhawks!
